Updates

Hey, everyone! These are my updates & links. Today I spent some time with my friend, Annette (pictures above). We are in a photography class together, and we came home and took pictures while drinking coffee. All I can say is that it was very pleasant. Annette is very photogenic. I'll post photos from some of our photo shoots later. I'll also post pictures from other photo shoots with information for photo shoots.

This is me today. I was having a very good hair day. I'm actually redyeing my hair a brighter red tomorrow. I'm super excited! :) I'll be sure to post pictures along with hair tips and tutorials. I'll also post a makeup tutorial. If you have any ideas for look books, email me: fionaaalyceee@gmail.com or just comment!

Now that I'm done with my selfies, here are my links:

Motivation

Hey! So as you all know, Danielle posts weekly prompts for people to respond to. This week's prompt is:
"Everyone has different things that keep them going. Sometimes it's the people around us, other times it might be what's waiting for us on the other side of hard work. Whatever it may be, there's usually some sort of motivation to get up every day, get things done, or maybe even go the extra mile. With that said, what would you say is your biggest motivation in life? Has it always been this way?"

My main motivation to keep me going is probably the thought of how much things have gotten better over the past few years, supportive friends, and coping skills. I've changed a lot in the past few years due to personal struggles, so this is a good prompt to reflect with.
About three years ago, I was diagnosed with depression, and it's been a daily struggle with issues from self-esteem to family fights to friendship problems. To be honest, as much as this sucks, I wouldn't be me if it hadn't happened. It made me so much stronger--emotionally and physically.
Friends are a huge part of my life, and family is too. My family is supportive but not in the way that I need because they don't understand my anxiety. It can also be very stressful with fights at home. My friends, on the other hand, are always there for me because they understand that middle school is literally a living hell. Whenever I'm sad, my friends are there. Need a shoulder to cry on? Friends are there. My friends are so reliable and they're so important to me. They're so willing to help me, that I'd drop anything to help them.  It's a great feeling to know that people are there for you.
My last biggest motivation is coping skills. My biggest coping skill is music because the music I listen to (see recommendations here) can always pick out what's wrong and help me feel better. Lyrics such as "I know it's tough. Please don't give up." And "This is not what it is only baby scars. I need your love like a boy needs his mothers side." are so meaningful to me because of my life struggles. I also find crying it out quite helpful because evantually, you just don't cry anymore—you can't cry anymore. It's just a good release to let it go sometimes.
I didn't mention this earlier in the post, but these things have caused a huge change in my attitude—positive and negative changes. I don't care what people think of me as much as I used to, but on the flip side, people probably don't like my straightforward attitude. I also learned that you have to enjoy life no matter what's going on and be grateful for what you have. I'm grateful for so many thing. Family. Friends. My foot surgeon. A good education. You really need to find the little things in life that keep you going because there are so many tiny things and not as many big things. Just keep your head up and everything will be better. :)

Cute Boat Decorations

Hey, everyone! Today I'm going to show you a super cute tutorial for making a mini boat decoration. I got this tutorial from a magazine, so I don't take credit for coming up with this tutorial. Let's get started! :)

You will need:
  • colored pencils
  • paper clips
  • wine corks
  • scissors
  • paper
  • tape

Take your wine cork and your paper clip, and unfold your paper clip into a relatively straight figure.

Next, fold your paper clip into U shape, and stick it into your wine cork
Then, cut out a triangle piece of paper and color it however you'd like.

Lastly, tape the piece of paper to the paper clip to create the sail.
The boat is ready for the Seven Seas!

This tutorial was a lot of fun, and I hope you guys enjoyed it!

Fiona

Walking With the Family

Hey, everyone! This post is just about my walk with my family yesterday! I had a lot of fun.

This is my dog, and his name is Gus. He is the weirdest yet the sweetest dog I've ever met. He's a Plotthound-Beagle mix. He loves chasing leaves in the Fall, playing in the Spring and Winter, and being lazy all year-round.

This is my little brother named Liam. As annoying as he can be, I still love him. He--just like any other ten year old boy--has an obsession with video games, toy guns, bothering his older sister, etc. He also enjoys archery, which is surprising considering how much he is inside.
This is a photo of my mom and my brother. I don't have much to say about this, but here it is!

This last photo is a mommy-daughter selfie. I love my mom to death, and I have no idea where in hell I'd be without her.

Weekend Updates & Links

Hey, Everyone! These are my Spring favorites/links & updates on my life!

Need phone cases, beanies, and hair bows?

This is an awesome store! (I really want this case)

This dress is stunning!

Updates:
I just had a recital, and it didn't go as I planned. My voice cracked & an entire verse was skipped (oops)! Luckily, no one noticed. I love singing so much, and even though it is quite scary to perform sometimes, I always enjoy it a lot. I just crave the thrill of building up confidence and singing a French art song to twenty people when you don't know most of them. I'm going to miss everyone a lot.
These girls are like my second family. I miss them already!
I'm so glad that the school year is almost over. Everyone is so rude to one another, and I can't wait to get away from such a negative environment. One classmate said I look like a clown with makeup on. As you can see below, there's a huge difference between a clown and me when I'm wearing makeup.
I just hate all of the negative vibes that people give off because it's not pleasant for anyone to be around and it increases my anxiety. Also, my classmates do the weirdest things to get attention. Here's an example:
Classmate: "Is Mexico part of the U.S.A. and do they speak Mexican there?"
This kid is actually really smart. I've seen his school work. He just acts out for attention, and even though it can be really funny, it's annoying and quite rude.
Anyways, I hope you guys are having a good week! I'll post later with some more pictures from photography!
Stay amazing,
Fiona:)

Why I Enjoy Photography

I'm pretty sure it is safe to say that photography is one of my biggest passions. I always look forward to taking new photos and blogging about them, and nothing makes me happier than taking pictures of anything colorful or interesting! Here are some photos that I've snapped since Christmas (edited with Photoshop). Enjoy! :)

I love this self-portrait because I feel like it does a really good job of showing who I am. The bright colors & the bright makeup (which I added in Photoshop) show my bubbly, playful side. The darker eyeliner--also added in Photoshop--and my serious face represents the depressed and anxious part of myself.

I love this photograph so so much because all of my friends are in it. My friends are a huge part of my life, and I have no idea where the hell I would be without them.

I don't know why, but I just find this photo visually pleasing. I'm a total color junkie when it comes to photography, and when I saw the opportunity to make my hair slightly brighter, I grabbed it and I ran.

As I said before, my friends are a huge part of my life, and this is one of my best friends, Annette, balancing on a little box made of bricks. I love this photo because it has a really peaceful vibe to it & I associate with having friends.

Photography and blogging are huge parts of my life, and I hope to be a blogger when I get older!
Stay amazing,
Fiona:)

Dealing With Depression: Journal Day Response

Hey! Sometimes Sweet does this awesome interactive post called "Journal Day." I love her prompts and ideas, so I'll respond to as many as I can.
This week's prompt:

"We all encounter challenges on a daily basis. You may consider yours something small, like having enough time in the day to accomplish everything you set out to do, or it may be a bit bigger- perhaps something you have to overcome mentally or emotionally, or even a struggle when dealing with a difficult person. Whatever the case, take a look at your daily life- what would you say is the biggest challenge you deal with? Or if you have a past struggle you were able to overcome, how did you do it? This week, write about a challenge you currently deal with on a day to day basis, or discuss one you managed to get past."

When I was 11 years old, I was diagnosed with depression, and it's been a daily struggle ever since. I have issues with self image and self esteem. It all started in 5th grade, but I don't know why. Sixth grade was awful, and so was 7th. In seventh grade, I was diagnosed with ADD. My ability to stay focused was so bad that my mom and I thought it was anxiety. Towards the end of seventh grade, I started to have minor anxiety with the very occasional panic attack. The summer after seventh grade was very difficult because I had flat foot correction surgery about six days after my birthday. I was off my foot until about the middle of October 2013, so I wasn't wan't walking for about three and a half months.
Eighth grade has basically been a living hell for me all year, and I can't wait to graduate from this school and finally move on to high school. I started off eighth grade with crutches, and my depression was becoming very unpredictable. I constantly had anxiety and panic attacks, so I was out of class a lot. My grades were dropping, and people were talking about me behind my back. I was getting really angry, and one day I decided that enough was enough. I decided to deal with this anxiety, and then I started sitting in class more (even though it made me quite uncomfortable) and I started socializing more. Everything was slowly getting better, and it still is. What helped me the most was knowing that the people who are mean don't matter. It's been three years since I've been diagnosed with depression, and it takes a super long time to recover. I'm still recovering now. What people don't realize is that so many people struggle with different things and in different ways, so when you try to help someone: be careful. Everyone get anxious or depressed or off task in a different way, and you don't want to make it worse.
This was a longer, more personal post, but that's how it is in the world and there is no way of avoiding every little bad thing. Thanks for reading! See you next time. :)
Stay amazing,
Fiona :)

Hampden's Wonders

Within Baltimore, there is a super cute neighborhood called Hampden. It's full of vintage shops and great restaurants, so if you live in the Baltimore area, you should check it out! This is the adventure that me, my mom, and our friends took on a cold February day!

I don't remember what I ordered, but it was delicious. Clearly it had eggs with it. This restaurant is amazing and you can't go wrong here. Everything from grilled cheese to blueberry pie to ice cream Sundays—they've got it all.
I also had some fruit (it was delicious) because I was just in the mood for fruit. Plus it's perfect for brunch.
I got some great pictures of my family too! Above is my lovely mom. She's always there for me and I love her so much.
I also took a silhouette photo of the name of the restaurant: Hon or Cafe Hon. In case you didn't know, Baltimore is known for having "hons." A hon is a lady with a huge beehive hairstyle and glasses. .

After we left, the guys went home and the girls went out to go window shopping! I walked a little slower to grab a photo and I love the way this one turned out.
The first store we shopped at is called Trohv. It's my favorite store out of what we looked at because of its witty yet cute items.
Believe it or not, this is gum. I thought this was hilarious and I would have bought this but my mom said no. :(
This was definitely my favorite thing in the store because this is pretty much my attitude when I'm at school. Yes. I know it sounds bad but let's be honest here. If you're surrounded by middle school boys  who think Mexico is part of the United States and chew on pens, you'll be pretty annoyed. You're probably wondering why they do/think that. They're 13 year old boys and that is the best explanation I can give as a teenage girl.
The last store I took pictures at was Avenue Antiques. This place is huge, but it's so amazing. They have the best jewelry too!
I just think that's these are darling. They're fabulous and would match some really cool outfits.

That was my adventure in Hampden, and I hope you go there and support the stores. They're super-duper cool.
Here are the links to the stores:

Daily Quick Pamper Time

In school, I can get very busy. I'm very busy in general though. I have something everyday after school Monday-Thursday, and I'm busy all day on Saturday. It can get quite stressful, so I do a mini self pampering routine every day. It's very simple and can be done very quickly.
1. First I spray Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy Stress Relief Pillow Spray in the scent Eucalyptus Spearmint on the bottom of my pillow. This spray is absolutely awesome and it works super well.
2. Next I apply my Bodycology Brown Sugar Vanilla Body Cream to my hands and any other dry areas of my body.
3. Lastly, I spritz Pantene's Anti-Breakage Hair Detangler for fine hair all over my hair.

I love this routine because you can easily add it to your night routine or your morning routine. It also makes you smell great because lotion is magical like that.
I hope that this was helpful to anyone who has a lot of stress daily and needs a quick pamper routine that they can do whenever they need to. Sorry for the lack of pictures.
Stay amazing,
Fiona :)

Camera Malfunction

Hey! So unfortunately my Canon t3i is not working correctly, so I'm going to send it to the Canon repair place. For now I'll be using my Canon Powershot SX260 HS for new pictures only. Sorry for the lower quality! :(

Lily's Outfit of the Day

Hey, guys! Today I'm hanging out with my friend Lily. She was wearing an adorable outfit, so I wanted to do an outfit of the day post. You can see more of Lily here. Let's get started!

As you can see, Lily has a great outfit. She paired some work out leggings from Target with a Taylor Swift shirt (don't know where it's from. sorry!). To add more style & detail, she wrapped a plaid flannel from Old Navy around her waist. This look is super simple, cute, and comfy, and great for when it gets warmer. It's cold today, and we decided that this outfit is better for warmer weather.

While I'm at it, here are some fashion tips:
  • Know your body type. If you have a curvy body, try wearing fitted clothes to show off your figure, and avoid ruffles. Ruffles make you look bustier, and if you're already curvy, you don't need the extra bust. If you have a less curvy body, try wearing ruffles. They can make you look curvier. Also, wear dresses that bring attention to your waist.
  • Know what colors suit you. If you have fair skin, go for lighter colors...darker colors make you look paler than you really are. If you have deep skin, you'll probably look your best in darker colors. But then again, everyone is different! Just know what suits you. :)
  • Make sure you're comfortable. If you're feeling physically or emotionally uncomfortable with what you're wearing, other people will pick up on it.
  • Be aware of what fits you and what doesn't fit you. You don't want something too tight or too lose.

Stay amazing,
Fiona

Observing the World Around You

Everyone seems to forget the little pleasant things in the world, so here is a list with some pictures!

Everyone loves laughing, but people don't seem to think of it as a big deal. When you think about it, someone completely changed your mood and maybe even your perspective on something!

There's nothing like looking back on things you did when you were young! I made this when I was 7, and looking at it brings back great memories.
I've always enjoyed photographing curtains in front of light. The color patterns fascinate me. Imagine the world without light. It would be quite freaky!

I love my poster because it's full of super true things about life.

There's always something to enjoy in life. No matter how small, there's always something to smile at. It might be smelling breakfast in the morning when you wake up or simply the fact that you're alive today. I've always had trouble finding things to smile at, but when you think about it, not smiling at anything is ridiculous! There are just so many things to be discovered, explored, and smiled at. Whenever I'm down, I tend to listen to music because it can always make me smile no matter what. Always turn that frown upside down!

Weekly Updates!

This is me today. I'm having a recital next Saturday at TWIGS. TWIGS is a program at Baltimore School for the Arts (my future high school), and it stand for "to work in gaining skill." There are 3 soloists—I'm one of them—and a group performance of "Someone Like You" by Adele. I'll be singing "Clair de Lune" by Gabriel Faure. (btw I'm singing the song a little bit lower than the video) I'm so excited!

I'm also having a photo shoot with my friend, Hailey, today. She's a great model as you can see in the picture above.

Those are my weekly updates!

Daily Makeup Routine

Hey, everyone! Today's post is about my daily makeup routine (with a few differences). I hope you guys enjoy this!

Start with a makeupless face

Next apply a tinted moisturizer & a pressed powder. My tinted moisturizer is from Wet 'n Wild in the color Beige, and my pressed powder (also from Wet 'n Wild) is in the color Pale. The product I used in the picture is Benefit's Some Kinda-Gorgeous Foundation Faker, but my face makeup has changed.

Next I apply a pink blush to make myself look more flushed & awake. This is Forever 21's Love & Beauty Cream Cheek Blush. I love it! It's my favorite blush!

After blush, I apply highlighter my brown bone to emphasize my eyes. I always use the Watts Up Highlighter by Benefit.

Now, I apply a light gold eyeshadow to my lid, and if I'm feeling adventurous, I'll apply a soft black to my outer corner and my crease. This gold eyeshadow is from a pallets with tons of colors, but I'm not sure where it's from. My guess if ELF.

Before I take care of my eyelashes, I apply black eyeliner to my bottom lash line. In this picture, I'm using ELF's black eyeliner pencil in Midnight.

Lastly, I apply mascara because mascara always fixes everything! I used Maybelline's Volume Express Mascara "Cat Eyes".
I hope you guys enjoyed this!
Lots of Love,
Fiona :)
